The Japanese single-stem, ikebana wall vase can adorn that little corner, that tiny bit of empty wall space with simple, calm elegance. Traditional Japanese decor, the wall vase is reborn dressed in russet patina and a nebulous pattern created by a Master Metal Craftsman, Koji Orii, of Momentum Orii Studio, and his team.
Momentum Orii studio, located in Takaoka City, a traditional stronghold of copper craftwork since 1611, was known for exclusively coloring Buddha statues and other wares. Now, third generation patina craft-artisan, and studio owner, Koji Orii, and his talented team of metal-coloring artisans, seek to invigorate the craft with new techniques and methods, while also relying on passed-down traditional Japanese metal-coloring (patinization) techniques as well. One such method involves the application of rice bran - a fermented paste used in Japan for making pickles. This application creates the unique, mottled and nebulous patterns on each object and sets Momentum Orii apart as the only studio in the world to be producing these unique colors and patterns on products for contemporary life.
